The ASF Executive Committee decided to postpone the 2020 Asian Team Championships to 2021 (exact dates to be confirmed) due to the extension of the Recovery Movement Control Order in Malaysia to December 31, 2020, which prevents international participants and audience are allowed to take part in sports activities.
The ASF EXCO took this opportunity to thank Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia for their preparation work and support.
Asian Squash Federation Executive Committee also confirmed the cancellation of 2020 Asian Junior Individual Championships today.
“This is a tough decision, but the EXCO and I think that it’s necessary to make this decision at this time,” said Mr. David Mui MH JP, ASF’s President, “safety and health of the athletes are always our top priority, especially for the juniors, whom I believe we should even be more cautious about. When Chinese Squash Association confirmed with us that they would not host the event due to the uncertain development of COVID-19 in the region and around the world, we respect and understand their decision.” Mr. Mui continued, “we are not inviting any new host to come in because the preparation time would be too rush. It’s unfair to the new host.”
“On behalf of the EXCO, I would like to thank Chinese Squash Association and Qingdao Squash Association for their dedication and support over the last eight months. I also hope that you and your loved ones continues to stay safe, stay healthy and stay strong.”
